Grandma’s Plate

Oops!

At my Grandma’s house there lived a plate – gorgeous teals, blues and browns.  Hand painted with care and treasured for years by her and many others.  She presented this plate to me just before she passed a year and a half ago.  A treasure to me.

This morning this treasure was broken.  Pieces strewn across the kitchen floor.  Tears shed & a mommy choosing grace instead of anger.  You see I’ve been studying in James about these subjects and in the midst of this ordeal I found myself dishing out grace and hugs in this time.  I also was quickly reminded that things are just that….things.  The memories and people in my life are what matter.
As I knelt down and looked into my daughter’s eyes I told her I forgave her and held her tight as my tears streamed down my cheeks.  I was sad.  It’s ok for her to see that.  I thanked God in that moment for giving me the wisdom and peace, and squeezed her tight.

I thanked God in that moment for giving me the wisdom and peace, and squeezed her tight.

An hour later I found my daughter doing the same thing she had done an hour before that broke the precious plate.  Instead of correcting her, I threw the fact that she broke it in her face.  Um, yeah, not the best moment.  If I truly forgave her I wouldn’t bring it back up again in a silly fit.
I’m praying that every day I have more of the good moments of wisdom and less of those with anger and pulling things out of the past to push others down.

& who can forget the amazing promise God gives us earlier in this book!? ~
