Fall is here and the breezy, cool days call us outside. Jeans, long sleeves and socks are a welcome necessity after the hot summers. There’s something about change that brings renewed hope and energy. We took a short drive as a family and stopped near Lake Michigan to take a short hike through the woods.
Jumping over sticks and kicking through the leaves, Eliana ran ahead giggling. Paul and I smiled as the shy leader took her place on the trail. The smiles on my face turned to frustration when the rules went out the window. You know, the simple ones to be within sight and ear shot, stay on the trail and close enough to connect with me. When she would run too far ahead I would run after her and explain to her why she must stay near. The whole trail was back and forth, listening, running, calling her back.
We’re the same with God, aren’t we. He has an amazing plan for us, yet we in our excitement and naiveté run ahead. Trying to protect us from getting lost or stumbling He asks us to seek Him. Connect with Him. He doesn’t put us on a leash (as some may think) but allows us to grow, run with Him, and live life to the fullest.
As we enjoy the fall weather and my daughter runs ahead on the trail I will remember these things that God impressed on my heart. The love He has for me. His desire to keep me close. & the enjoyment He has watching me move forward, leading others in His plan.
I pray that God shows you His unending love and that your heart for Him will be renewed.
