Here’s my “techie” series for all of you Viking Sewers out there. I know there are similar versions out there for everyone else. So, join us anyway. Chances are there are little to no difference between them!
This is one amazing foot! The Viking Adjustable Bias Tape foot. When I first started looking I saw a few different options, but this one that was adjustable was “the one.”
It just snaps right on. No messing with screws to change anything.
You can see the adjustment on the right in the picture.
It works like a dream. I love double fold bias tape, and it just slides right in. Here, let me show you:
Now that you’ve seen the basics to the bias tape, check out the foot:
Here’s a closeup of a blanket I used it on.
The only thing I have problems with is the corners. I can do a mean (mitered) corner on my own, but I can’t figure out how to finagle it around with the tape in the foot. I’m assuming that you just have to start short of the point, take it out of the guide and just sew it under the foot like you would on any typical mitered corner (fancy way of saying a beautifully sewn corner

YOU DON’T NEED THE FOOT - START HERE!
If you don’t have the foot, you can find a million tutorials out there - for starters you can try out Dana’s from MADE. If you’re quilting, look at Oh Fransson’s she shows you how to do the mitered corner! (Love her quilt patterns and book…Learned a lot from her!) Just know that there’s a difference between binding and bias tape. They may look alike, but bias is cut on the bias (45′ angle) allowing it to follow curves, etc. Binding does not have to be cut on the angle if used on straight edges like blankets. Binding will not stretch and move around curves.

P.S.
Check out last Saturday’s post where I have finally posted a video of the ruffler in action.
I hope you’re finding some of these helpful or interesting. Next week I’m thinking zipper foot and another. Happy Weekend!
i had no idea they had a bias tape foot either. you are just a wealth of knowledge for me!! and, i admire how much work you have put into these saturday series posts! nice job friend!
That foot looks awesome!!! I had no idea they made that, it looks so helpful! Love this series! i feel like I’m learning a ton!
I love your blog, thanks for all the great info! I have a Bias tape foot and its great. I agree about the corners though, I am having such a hard time with it. I did find a site that goes over it but not in great depth. http://www.thesewbox.com/f/Tape_stitching_foot_Turn_Corners.pdf
I am wondering if we cut the corners off and instead made it a rounded corner if the foot could make it around that. I haven’t had time to try it, but if anyones knows let us know. It would look good as well!
Hope it helps, thanks
