The Blessings Jar (& a Giveaway!)

This summer has been full of family times at the beach, grandparents, pool and backyard. Amidst the chaos, late bedtimes and little ones waking up with the sun we have had a house full of potty talk and whining.

“It’s NOT fair!”

Oh yes, the phrases of summer that accompany the smell of freshly cut grass. Sayings that my 2 year old and 4 year old have grumbled before lunchtime or just before dinner.

“No, that’s mine!”

“Nu-Uh, NO, I don’t like you.

A quick trip to the grocery store or a text with a friend and I know we are not alone. Some people blame it on the “generation”, but I don’t. It’s kids being kids and it is my job to pray with them and train them up in the way they should go (Proverbs 22:6).

With this challenge it is nice to find support from friends and resources. Tommy Nelson shipped their new book, “The Blessings Jar” at just the right time.

My daughter and I read the book together (changing the main character’s name to her name) and talked about everything God has given us. The next day we re-read the book and I found a blue mason jar for her to fill with blessings. Now she did not have the perfect ideas and may have added 10 hair clips and a handful of sand and rocks to her jar, but it was hers and she was able to tell me why she placed each object in there.

I think I may need to start a jar of my own. Maybe I should throw in a sticky note with a dishwasher drawing or a kid shoelace. Goodness we have a lot to be thankful for and so often I worry or get anxious about messes and miss all that God has given me.

I look forward to bringing this to each Grandparent’s house at Christmas. What a great gift for them to be able to have a special day looking for blessings with Grandkids rather than worrying about trying to keep the kids entertained or contemplating differences in parenting ideas. In the meantime I’m going to be printing these free coloring pages available here.

Now it’s your turn to either win a copy here or purchase one. This is a sweet book with adorable illustrations that made big connections with my family. “The Blessin’s Jar” will join our grouchy days for years to come. a Rafflecopter giveaway
