I want what you have.
Do you ever feel like this? Staring at others’ lives and wanting what they have.
For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing. ~ James 3:16 NASB
Jealousy blinds us from seeing what we have right in front of us.
- I have a wonderful husband and two loving kids.
- I have a car that’s paid off.
- I have a house that is half paid off and small enough to clean in a few hours.
- I have met and learned from many people locally and globally that are taking next steps with Jesus.
- I have a bike and two legs to run.
- I have grocery money for the week.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” ~ Hebrews 13:5 NIV
Jealousy blinds us of reality.
So often we can be so wrapped up in what people have we don’t think about what struggles may come with it….
- What sacrifices does that family make to have that extra money?
- How much debt are they carrying?
- How many fights do they have over the time alone?
- What does their marriage look like when no one is around?
Are you jealous? Are you concerned only about getting ahead? Then your life will be a mess. You will be doing all kinds of evil things. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is pure. That’s the most important thing about it. And that’s not all. It also loves peace. It thinks about others. It obeys. It is full of mercy and good fruit. It is fair. It doesn’t pretend to be what it is not. ~ James 3:16,17 NIRV
I pray for that pure wisdom & not pretending to be something that I’m not.
God, let us not be blinded by jealousy, but let us follow you in love and peace.

Thank you for this post. I suppose we do all feel jealous at times, and I was about to say “it’s natural”…but I don’t think that it is what God every intended for us. You bring up some really good points, and I think it is important to remember that, although the grass may look greener, looks can be deceiving. If we spend our energy on improving and enjoying what we have, there won’t be much room or time for jealousy. Thanks for bringing up this important topic!
