My good old buddy James (did I mention that I am in the Beth Moore Bible study on James?) challenged me this week on my hoarding tendencies. Not extreme hoarding, but hoarding in the standards that I keep things “just in case” I want it in 10 years. There are people that can’t clothe their children but I still have buckets of favorite baby items just in case we have another. Sad, I know.
So, I’m challenging our family to go through:
1 - our kids’ clothes
2 - our kids’ books
3 - my personal stash of books
4 - my closet
5 - my shoes
6 - my husband’s outdoor gear stash
7 - our kids’ toys
8 - my craft/sewing supplies
We have a small home to some standards, but that makes less to clean and more of a necessity to organize and de-clutter.
I’ll share with you my progress over the next month or two.
The first thing I tackled yesterday was my scrap fabric buckets. I sent 5 full grocery bags out the door for others to use. It felt good to empty some space and give some away for kids to use in craft projects of their own.
Are there some areas in your home that you need to de-hoard (de-clutter?)
I have a huge scraps pile, ok piles, of fabric that I may use for some project at some point and a ton of old clothes I am going to repurpose, when I have the time…. Hmmm, may need to go through some of this stuff.
