I’m not going to lie. Writing this review has taken me far outside of my comfort zone. After reading his blog and hearing Jeff speak at the Blissdom Conference in Nashville this year I decided to throw fear out the window and take on the challenge to be 1 of 100 to review his book before it is released.
In the midst of my fears telling me “Why are you reading this? You’re not a writer!” These words jumped off of the page at me;
You may be writing for the love of it, which is perfectly fine, but if you want to touch someone’s life (as most writers do), this is not enough.
This is exactly what I want: I want to impact people’s lives. To tell stories, share my life experiences and faith; to walk alongside people and encourage them. If Jeff is right, I’m not doing enough.
Give yourself lots of grace and room to fail. You’ll need it. You must be bold and risk a little, but I promise you: The outcome is worth the risk.
Words of encouragement I need to hear are sprinkled throughout. To leave an imprint in someone’s life you need to move forward and put your work out there. Face your fears and move forward.
Writing is tough. If you’re serious about being a writer you have to put the time and effort in. Commitment is key.
Whether you blog, sell things on etsy or write for the local paper, this book is for you. Jeff writes in a way that makes you feel like he’s dishing all of his writing and publishing secrets over coffee. He’s your advocate.
This book is more than a one-time read. It’s a great resource on your writing journey. Questions and examples fill the pages and I know I will be referring to it for a long time.
I have heard that it’s always harder to make complex concepts seem simple. Jeff has taken on that difficult task to take some bigger concepts and put them into smaller steps.
In conversations with writing friends (and my family who is still trying to figure out what a blog is and why I tweet) I will be able to use what I have learned to answer questions and help others along this crazy love of writing. If you asked me if you should grab this book, I think it’s an obvious yes.

I enjoyed the book as well, and this is a really nice review. Like many writers, I want to touch people’s lives as well, so that part really jumped out for me too. It reminded me of why I started writing in the first place and why I won’t give up.
