Are you reading along with us in 2 Peter* this month?

*(It’s a 3 chapter book in the New Testament of the Bible).
Years ago my Mom told me when re-reading something, try it in chunks backwards. It makes you ask questions and helps you focus rather skim, knowing what’s is coming next. Here’s a little peek into how it works.
I have a hard time remembering what I did yesterday, much less what I read or heard a year ago. Peter writes to followers of Jesus telling them;

So I will always remind you of these things. I’ll do it even though you know them. I’ll do it even though you now have deep roots in the truth. ~ 2 Peter 1:12 NIRV

Remind us of what?

So you should try very hard to add goodness to your faith. To goodness, add knowledge. To knowledge, add the ability to control yourselves. To the ability to control yourselves, add the strength to keep going. To the strength to keep going, add godliness. To godliness, add kindness to believers. And to kindness to believers, add love. You should possess more and more of those good points. They will make you useful and fruitful as you get to know our Lord Jesus Christ better. But what if some of you do not have those good points? Then you can’t see very well. You are blind. You have forgotten that your past sins have been washed away. ~ 2 Peter 1:5-9 NIRV

How in the world do we do this?

God’s power has given us everything we need to lead a godly life. All of that has come to us because we know the One who chose us. He chose us because of his own glory and goodness. He has also given us his very great and valuable promises. He did it so you could share in his nature.~ 2 Peter 1:3-4a NIRV

WE DON’T. God does!

I love that God wants to remind others of His love and power offered to us. I can’t say I am that patient at all - my mantra for my 3 year old is “listen the first time”. We cannot forget that God thinks we’re so important that He has sent others to remind us of His love!
