The Baby-in-the-hood Jacket from Anna Marie Horner’s book handmade Beginnings is so fun! I love the look of it! The only sad part is that my little one was born in August and grew like a weed. He only got to wear it once! Ask me if I had my camera out that day - nope! So sad.
Anyway, here’s a long-past-due look at my thoughts and ramblings over this pattern.

Things I liked:
Overall Look - I mean how much cuter can you get!?
Fully Lined - no icky seams to bother baby!
Directions - well written and pictures just when you need them.
Elastic Hood - I love this look and the simplicity of it. Glad she thought through not having strings with babies. =)

Things I did/will change next time:
The hood - follow her directions when she says be careful to mark the front and back. I have another coordinating hood for this jacket that’s a bit off - argh! My own stupid fault. The next time I marked the front and back with chalk in great big letters!
Seam Allowances - They change in the pattern, so I went through and highlighted them in each step so I would be sure to notice the change. 1/4″ and 1/2″ seams will make a difference if you do the wrong one!

Things I learned:
The Button Placket - I’ve never done one before, so it was nice to learn how to make one with finished edges all around. Definitely a great thing to learn!

Overall:
I would highly recommend sewing this jacket. It is definitely a “keeper”. The little extras that take more time just make this jacket stand out from the rest.

Now, on to Amy Butler’s baby pants pattern in her Little Stitches for Little Ones book.
Things I liked:
They are so simple and quick to make. I’ve made multiple pairs in many different fabrics. I actually have even made some sweatpants and just lengthened the pattern. (The elephant pants if you’ve been reading my blog).
Things I changed/will change next time:
Make the bottom cuff longer and have the ability to roll up (like A.M. Horner’s baby pants or Made by Rae’s) for length changing ability without showing seams, etc.
Things I learned:
Can’t say I learned anything from this pattern, but that may show you how simple, easy and quick they are to make. No nail-biting areas in the pattern or directions =)
Overall:
I would highly recommend sewing this pant pattern. It’s a nice one to have on hand to make for all of those baby showers you need to attend.

  1. So cute! I will be honest, I didn’t go into the details about the pattern. I don’t sew and it’s Greek to me :)
I did read your post about brain surgery. WOW. God is amazing huh? I don’t handle big or little changes well. I tend to freak out and need to be carried on :) He has to remind me quite force-ably that He’s in control.
