It’s the first week of our Series for Social Media Month. What began as a Saturday series now also involves some Wednesdays for the month, so don’t miss out!
Our first guest is so nice to share with us her knowledge of newsletters! She has a great blog (2 now!), patterns, scarves, aprons and a bold unique style that drew me to her blog awhile back. I sport 3 of her scarves around town (she now sells the pattern in her shop) So, without further ado, I introduce Megan….

Hello! It’s Megan from Brassy Apple (blog here) and the new
I am MORE than just photo Blog.

Virginia asked me share a bit about newsletters.
Although I don’t know it all, I do know of a few resources I can share with you!

Why send a newsletter?
I think newsletters let those people that are really interested in your business keep up with what is going on. They want to know what is new, what is coming up, exciting news, giveaways, etc. It always generates new and extra traffic, sales and questions or interest in my business when I send one out.

What do you put in a newsletter?

That all depends on the content of your blog or business. I use my newsletter primarily for my dot com shop. I announce new product being stocked, sewing patterns, sales, etc. In that same newsletter I will also mention what’s happening on the Brassy Apple Blog - giveaways, tutorials, upcoming features, free patterns and so on. You can also offer a discount code that is exclusive to your subscribers and let them know that. My subscribers appreciate getting the heads up first when I have new product stocked or a sale before it is announced or posted on FB, twitter or my blog.

How often do you send out a newsletter?

Like everyone else, we all get a lot of emails in a day. You don’t want to abuse those who are on your mailing list. A safe rule to go by is to send at least 1 a month. This keeps you front of your customers and readers. It allows you to announce or bring to their attention several things that are going on, have recently happened or things to look forward to. Can you send them out more often? Yes. But pay attention to your numbers. Are you losing subscribers? Is the email being deleted before it’s opened? Have you received feedback that you send out too many? Again, don’t abuse those who are on your list.

Can you suggest a company to go through?

I have had some experience with a couple of different companies.
Both I would recommend.
Check into how much it costs per month to use their service and if that price changes as your subscriber number goes up. Do your homework and compare to other companies.
Also, if you have less than 2,000 subscribers, MAIL CHIMP is a GREAT option. It’s FREE (yup free) up to 2,000 subscribers.
Again, do your homework and find a company you are comfortable with. Also, if you subscribe to any newsletters pay attention to the service they use. You can usually find this information at the very bottom of the newsletter. You may find a company that you would like to use! :)

I hope I have helped clear up some questions about Newsletters!
Stop by and say hello sometime! You can find me
