I choose everyday what I’m going to do with my time. I make choices that not only affect me, but those around me.
Well,
Today, I choose - God.
Today, I choose to run around with my kids & love them.
Today, I choose to let my dishes go a bit and bike with the kids.
Today, I choose to sit back and praise God for an amazing husband, family, friends, home.
A few weeks ago I helped lead a little session for our Child Dedication parents at our church. I shared a bit about choices - not by coincidence, I know. (I’m not sure many of you would know the book, Parenting Beyond Your Capacity, but it’s a great resource.) You know when you’re asked to share something & you learn more from it then what the people listening probably did? Yeah, that’s happening to me.
In the book it challenges parents to not just decide to start doing things with their kids/spouses. Let me explain.
I had to think about how to share this with you all. Here it is:
- Don’t just start reading the Bible at night with your kids….
- Don’t pray with your spouse…..
- Don’t talk about how much God loves them….
- Don’t pray with your kids….
Here’s the kicker ~
WITHOUT…
Giving up something in your day.
Don’t start doing something new and try to add it to the 24 hours you’ve already filled. Choose something that you can take out.
It’s not easy, is it!?
“But how do I choose?”, you ask.
Think about what will matter 100 years from now. What are you doing that doesn’t have eternal significance & then choose to sacrifice that.
I’ll be sharing tomorrow what I’m tearing out of my schedule to be the daughter of Christ, wife, mom, daughter, sister, friend I’m called to be today.
I’ve never heard of that book, but I’ll definitely be checking it out! I have such a hard time cramming everything into my days, but hardly any of the little things I feel I HAVE to get done have any eternal relevance whatsoever. I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s post!
can not wait to hear what you are doing ! I NEED to do this too
