This has been a full week. Here’s a bit of what’s been going on and some things I’m liking a lot. I’m linking up with Erika from Rouge & Whimsy….

CANCER FREE!

The most exciting piece of news I have for you is that my Mother is now cancer free! She finished her last round of chemo this week. Thank you for all of your prayers and comments. She read them and really was overwhelmed. Please continue to pray for a bit more since she still has the reaction to this last round and has a few surgeries to go.

GARAGE SALES & CHRISTMAS SHOPPING

Yes, I mentioned Christmas in June. To save money I shop at thrift stores and garage sales for my kids’ gifts. The only issue is when they see me sneaking it in the car. At least they only have the attention span of kids and quickly forget. (Except for the princess bubble necklace drama). I’ve found some great deals and am putting away in the bin in my basement for a few months.

AROUND THE HOUSE

My husband has been working hard finishing our couch (yes, it’s almost done!) and working through our to-do list for the summer. Today he’s already painted our bedroom, outside trim, power-washed the deck and more. He’s a workhorse. I however voluntarily took the kids out of the house all morning to save all of our sanity.

ARGH - I NEED YOUR HELP….

My friend just found out she’s having a boy this week. Their nursery theme is going to be a childish pirate theme. I’m throwing her a shower and would love your help. Since I’m frugal I’d like to theme the shower in items that I could then give her to decorate the nursery. (Don’t worry, she said that she’d love the help!) This is where you all come in…I would love your ideas for this theme.

CATHERINE HOLM

I just may be hoping to find some Catherine Holm enamelware at a garage sale. The simple design and colors are so attractive to me. You just may hear me squeal if I find any at a great price.

What have you been up to this week? Any pirate ideas for me?

that is great news about your Mom!! for the pirate theme, maybe look at a scrapbooking store (do you have archivers?) for a few graphic pieces then base the rest of your material around it. Dollar tree has nice plastic plates + bowls (not sure how formal it is)

    • I know, I’m so excited that she’s done!

Ooh, That’s a great idea! & we’re not fancy at all. I do hit up the dollar store for plates =) Thanks for the ideas! Keep ‘em coming!

I LOVE decorating, especially for parties! I wish we were neighbours because then we could go thrift store shopping together which would be a blast! :)
I had a nautical party for my birthday. (http://www.nadinewouldsay.com/2012/03/nautical-night.html) I wish I had taken more pictures though - but I had fun, so I don’t care. Almost everything I found at dollar stores or thrifted. I used rope and my friends cut out letters to tack on to the wall to write “welcome aboard” - you could do that - or write something more pirate-y!
Have fun though - party planning is my absolute favourite thing - but only when I find things on the cheap. I also don’t use interest because it’s too overwhelming. Just remember, things don’t have to be perfect, people just need to have fun and be loved!

  4. I know you could probably find some fun crates to use for the part decorations to add height on the table. Those crates would also be perfect for storage in the nursery.
Also a large pirate map canvas would be fun! It shouldn’t be to hard to create with acrylic paint.
Oh and golden yellow felt circles sewn together would make a cute garland like gold doubloons! Sounds fun! We love pirate-y stuff around here.

  5. I am so glad your momma is cancer free! also for the pirate theme, could you fold little paper boats out of brown paper to top food? also, gold coins + jewels sprinkled on the table?
